NZ Through to Round of Sixteen
12 Jun 2013The NZ Men's team is though to the round of 16 at the World Men's Team Championships in Mulhouse.
The Squash Blacks have beaten Botswana to progress to the round of 16 at the World Men's Team Championships in Mulhouse, where they will play Germany. The tie against Germany will be played on an all glass court, and streamed live from 11pm tonight NZT (http://worldmensquash-mulhouse2013.fr/en/streaming-direct/).
Although the scoreline was 2/1, New Zealand were the comfortable victors over Botswana. First on court, Paul Coll accounted for Koketso Ntshebe 11-6 11-2 11-2 to get the Kiwis off to the best possible start. Next on was Campbell Grayson, up against ex-English international Alister Walker (currently ranked 15 in the world). Campbell played an excellent match, twice leading Walker, only to go down 9-11 11-9 6-11 12-10 11-7.
And so it was left to Martin Knight to wrap up the tie for New Zealand, which he duly achieved by beating Lekgotla Mosope 11-3 11-1 11-4.
The win guarantees New Zealand a place in the top sixteen - and an improvement on the 23rd placing achieved at the 2011 Championships in Germany.
However, a place in the top eight beckons in tonight's tie against Germany.
