Junior Events


We run a comprehensive junior calendar of events providing competitive opportunities for all standards of junior player Under 19 years old. Squash New Zealand, in partnership with host clubs, organises these events each year and each event has slightly different regulations. Trans-Tasman Junior Team Championships

The Executive Travel Trans-Tasman Junior Team contest for this title on an annual basis against Australia directly proceeding or directly after the Oceania Junior Championships. The Championships are contested between a team of 18 players (boys and girls) with varying numbers of players in each age group. The winning country is the one who wins the most matches.

Oceania Junior Championships

The Oceania Junior Championships are contested annually and represent the pinnacle of Oceania competition for Oceania Regional juniors. The event is open to all international players. The event was restarted in 2014 and is run in alternate years between New Zealand (odd years) and Australia (even years).

G.J. Gardner Homes New Zealand Junior Age Group and District Teams Championships

The New Zealand Junior Age Group Championships are contested annually, and represent the pinnacle of national competition for New Zealand juniors. The event is closed to international players - only New Zealand residents may enter. 

Since 1970 (Boys' Rothman Cup) and 1981 (Girls' Rothman Cup) the inter-district teams events have been equally hard fought and sought-after accolades. Since 1981 the Gifford Cup has also been awarded, to the best-performed district across the boys' and girls' competitions.

New Zealand Junior Open

The New Zealand Junior Open is the only Squash New Zealand national junior event that does not sort players into age groups - it is seeded solely on grade. In 1950, boys began contesting the Panmure SC Cup, and from 1956 girls have played off for the Dr T C Childs Vase (Silver Tray since 2004).

North Island Junior Age Group Championships

The North Island Junior Age Group Championships are contested annually, and are the premier North Island based junior national event on the calendar. This event is open to international players.

South Island Junior Age Group Championships

The South Island Junior Age Group Championships are contested annually, and are the premier South Island based junior national event on the calendar. This event is open to international players.

New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships

The New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships are contested annually and represent the pinnacle of secondary schools competition in New Zealand. The event is run by the New Zealand Secondary Schools Squash Association (NZSSSA). Secondary schools can enter teams of five in either/both the boys (Ross Norman Trophy) and girls (Susan Devoy Trophy) competitions, with ties played in pool and/or knockout format to decide the winners. Since 2010 a co-ed trophy has also been contested.
