Commanding start from New Zealand

New Zealand has kicked off its World Championship campaign with a 3-0 thrashing of Poland

A comprehensive victory for New Zealand in its opening tie at the WSF Men's World Team Squash Championships in France.

The 12th seeded Kiwi side romped to a 3-0 win over Poland, with all three matches won in straight games.

Evan Williams started the ball rolling for New Zealand with an 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 victory over Marcin Karwowski, with Martin Knight making it 2-0 with an 11-1, 11-3, 11-5 win over Wojtek Nowisz.Senior Men's Team

Paul Coll then completed the rout with an 11-3, 11-5, 11-1 victory over Przemyslaw Atras.

Squash New Zealand High Performance Coach Paul Hornsby says it was just the start he was looking for, against an opponent they knew very little about.

"Poland are competing in the event for the first time with none of their squad members competing on the PSA circuit. Having no idea of the strength of their players, our objective was to be ruthless and clinical in our own performances and not use this as an opportunity to go through the motions. All of the lads did a great job of this and after less than 90 minutes we had got the championships underway with a convincing 3-0 victory."

New Zealand's next pool match is against fifth seeded Malaysia tomorrow.  The match will be streamed live on www.squashsite.co.uk from 4.30am NZT.
