Safe Day for Seeds at South Island Champs

No major dramas for the seeded players on day one of the South Island Squash Championships in Nelson.

All seven seeds in action are safely through to the second round, with all but one of them winning in straight games.  Men's Open third seed Shane Johnston was the exception, edging to a 3-1 win over Christopher Collins.

Top seed Megan Craig had a bye in the first round of the Women's Open, but put her time to good use, racking up a 3-1 win over Nick Wiffen in the men's draw.  The world number 52 now faces a tough ask tomorrow, taking on second seed Chris van der Salm in the quarterfinals of the men's draw,  as well as facing Julie Gillaly in the last eight of the women's.
