Kiwis take Australian Junior Titles

Abbie Palmer, Ruby Turnbull and Scott Galloway perform strongly to win their age groups at the Australian Junior Open.

Great performances from the Kiwi contingent at the Australian Junior Open in Sydney over the Easter long weekend has resulted in three titles and a runner-up.

Abbie Palmer and Scott Galloway won the Girls and Boys under 17 titles respectively.  Abbie completely outclassed her opposition, winning the title without dropping a set (beating Australian Stacey Cope 11-3, 11-7, 11-4 in the final).  Scott, too, was convincing on his way to the decider where he was pushed all the way by Australian Rohan Toole.  Scott eventually won a long five setter 19-17, 6-11, 11-9, 1-11, 11-8.  Ruby Turnbull (pictured below) of the Christchurch Football club replicated Abbie Palmer's dominance in the Girl's under 13 division, taking the title without dropping a set.  The second seed, Ruby beat top-seeded Australian Alex Haydon 11-2, 11-7, 11-4 in the final.Ruby Turnbull AJO

Kobe Fleming of Mana Squash Club also performed strongly to finish runner-up in the Boys under 11 division.  Seeded second, Kobe beat three Australian opponents on his way to the final where he was beaten by Australian top seed Ethan Eyles 11-3, 11-2, 11-6.
