Joelle solid as other seeds slip in Macau

A comfortable first up win for Joelle King in Macau but some of the other seeds are already playing spectacularly.

New Zealand's Joelle King has avoided the carnage as several of the seeded players crashed out on day one of the Macau Open on the WSA women's world squash tour.

Fresh from her semifinal appearance at the prestigious US Open in Philadelphia, the Kiwi world number 12 and top seed made light work of her opening round match against Malaysian Siti Munirah Juson, notching up a comfortable 11-2, 11-3, 11-6 victory.
Second seeded Indian Dipika Pallikal was similarly untroubled in a straight games win over Macau's Liu Kwai Chi, but it was a day to forget for three of the other title contenders.  Third seeded Mexican Samantha Teran was upset in four games by Indian qualifier Joshna Chinappa, while fourth seeded Australian Donna Urquhart blew a two game advantage to bow out in five to South African Siyoli Waters.   Defending champion and fifth seed Joey Chan from Hong Kong fared even worse, going down in straight games to Japan's Misaki Kobayashi.
Joelle King will now face Malaysian sixth seeded Delia Arnold in the quarterfinals.
