Happy 50th Stu Davenport

Squash New Zealand would like to wish Stu Davenport a happy 50th birthday.

Many happy returns to the ex world number three who today enters his sixth decade of life.

Stu is one of New Zealand's most decorated squash players.  He was an outstanding junior, having learned his trade in Christchurch initially, and prospered under the tutelage of renowned coach Dardir El Bakary.  After terrorising most of his New Zealand opponents, he announced himself to the world in 1980 at the World Junior Championships in Sweden.  At these championships Stu placed third in the individual event, anStu Davenportd later led New Zealand to third place in the teams event.

A distinguished senior career followed, highlights of which included finishing third in the World Individual Championships held in New Zealand in 1983, and several outstanding efforts for New Zealand in World Teams Championships events.  Stu retired at the tender age of 25, sensing that he had reached his peak and preferring to concentrate on business interests.  He now lives in Wellington where he works in the gym and fitness industry.

Unfortunately for Stu, his birthday clashes with the New Zealand Masters Championships being held at Hawkes Bay SRC over the weekend.  His priorities these days have changed; now a social player Stu is skipping the individual Championships in preference of attending his fiftieth birthday party.  After prioritising squash for most of the early parts of his life, probably fair enough!  He will, however, travel to Hawkes Bay in time to bolster Wellington's hopes of defending their National Masters Inter District Teams Event title commencing on Monday.

Have a great day Stu, and here's to 50 more years!
