KiwiSport Games At SquashGym PNKiwiSport Funding Increases Club Numbers

Thanks to KiwiSport funding and Squash Auckland's commitment to the schools programme Junior squash at North Shore Squash Club is on the rise.

At the end of July, Takapuna Normal Intermediate School ran a Squash in Schools programme, coordinated by Squash Auckland and funded through KiwiSport - a national initiative to get more kids into sport.

A few weeks later, North Shore Squash Club ran their junior club night and had 61 keen young squash players attend... an astounding 21 of those were students from Takapuna Normal Intermediate School who had enjoyed their introduction to squash so much, that they wanted some more of the action.

Within one week of that, six of those students had joined the club as members.

Squash New Zealand are currently developing a national squash in schools junior programme which will make it easier for Districts and Clubs to work with their local schools to deliver squash. A uniform programme will provide resources, training and equipment and aims not only to get more kids playing squash at school, but more kids joining squash clubs as a result of their interest being piqued in the sport.
