New Zealand Team Confirmed For 2022 World Doubles

The New Zealand team has been confirmed for the WSF World Doubles Squash Championships to be held in Glasgow in April.

The team is headed by current men’s world No 2 Paul Coll and women’s No 6 Joelle King.

It also includes Bay of Plenty left-hander Amanda Landers-Murphy who won gold with King at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018. Also from the team four years ago is New Zealand national champion, another left-hander in Evan Williams from Wellington who will play mixed with Manawatu’s Kaitlyn Watts.

Auckland left-hander Abbie Palmer will combine with Watts in women’s doubles.

Watts, age 21 and Palmer 24 potentially have a number of years ahead of them representing New Zealand. At present Watts is 95th in the world and Palmer ranked 134.

In the men’s doubles the Chileshe brothers, Lwamba, age 23 and Temwa 21 will play together. Lwamba ranked 92 and Temwa 111, both have been based in the UK training and playing PSA tournaments.

It is the first time a New Zealand doubles team has had a four men, four women split in recent years.

New Zealand has traditionally done well in the doubles format of the game winning the women’s gold at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games – King and Landers-Murphy as well as the mixed bronze – King and Paul Coll.

In the 2017 Doubles world Champs King and Landers-Murphy also won gold as did King and Coll in the mixed in Manchester. The same Kiwi pairs also won the previous year in Darwin.

The World Doubles Championships will be held in Glasgow, 5-9 April at the Scotstoun Leisure Centre and will be held just after the British Open.
