2021 Men's World Squash Team Championships Dates Confirmed

The Men's World Squash Team Championships has been re-confirmed with the start date of 7-12 December and a huge 27 nations taking part at the National Squash Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Originally set to be hosted in Tauranga and then transferred to KL under new strict Covid-19 guidelines, the tournament has been a huge task for organisers and participating nations with travel during a worldwide pandemic.

The New Zealand team finished fifth at the previous world champs in Washington D.C two years ago and consists of world No 3 Paul Coll, Evan Williams and the Chileshe brothers, Lwamba and Temwa for next month’s event.

The coach/manager for New Zealand has been confirmed with Amsterdam-based, former Australian, Tom Steward taking on the role for the tournament to be held next month in KL in Malaysia.

Steward is 33 and hails from Melbourne. He is a former Australian junior champion, before following his parents’ footsteps into coaching and working with some of the worlds’ best in numerous clubs around the world. He is currently the head coach at SquashCity in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

“I'm incredibly excited to be part of the NZ team for the Men’s World Team Championships in Malaysia. I’m looking forward to a great tournament, and will do all I can to help the boys get the best results possible,” said Steward.

With Covid-19 situation around the world and potential MIQ issues it has been difficult to plan for the tournament, however all members of the New Zealand team can’t wait to get on the court for their country again.

Evan Williams is the only local based player with all others are currently living in Europe.
