South Island Junior Age Group Champs Playing Times

A chance to be crowned South Island Age Group Champion for several of New Zealand's top young juniors this weekend.

Just under 100 players will descend on Timaru Squash Racquets Club to contest titles in the under 19, 17, 15, and 13 age groups.

Oamaru's Chris van der Salm should give the locals plenty to cheer about.  Van der Salm is the top seed in the under 19 boys draw, with Cantabrian Andy Ellis tipped to meet him in the final. They are the only A Grade players in the draw, although there are a raft of players who are graded B1 who are more than capable of defying the form book.

Meanwhile, there are only four players vying for the under 19 girls title, with Otago's Sophie Askin favoured to win.  Southland's Rebecca Fairweather is expected to be her main rival, while Canterbury's Kelsi Carrick and local hope Melissa Cosgrove will be hoping to stage an upset or two along the way.

The South Island Age Group Championships get underway at midday on Saturday. Please click here for the full list of first round match times.
