Juniors back from Malaysia

The contingent of New Zealand juniors has returned from Malaysia, having achieved considerable success.

Unfortunately Ellie Epke was denied in the final for the second consecutive event, beaten 11-9, 11-7, 14-12 by Malaysian Sivasangari Subramanium.  This small disappointment should not override an excellent tour for Ellie; two runner-up finishes against international competition is a fantastic result.

On the final day of competition Sophie Askin led the way for the Kiwis, taking out the under 17 girls' plate competition by beating Taylor Victor of South Africa 7-11, 11-3, 11-8 (retired).  Abbie Palmer also finished on a positive note by winning both of her remaining matches after losing in the quarterfinals to finish fifth in the under 15 girls' competition.  Scott Galloway was clinical in beating Vikas Mehra of India 11-2, 11-9, 11-0 to finish seventh.  Courtney Bragg and Sophie O'Connell finished 26th and 30th respectively in the under 17 girls' event.

Of the under 19 boys, Ben Grindrod, Dylan Tasker, Chris Van Der Salm and James Cooper signed off their respective Malaysian tours on a positive note to finish 15th, 19th, 21st and 25th respectively.  Jonny Barnett finished 10th, Zac Millar 12th, Todd Redman 14th and Andrew Ellis 18th to round out a strong event for New Zealand.

Squash New Zealand would like to congratulate all of the players and parents who travelled to Malaysia on their fantastic results.
