Williams Falls Short In Match 250

New Zealand Commonwealth Games team member, Evan Williams from Wellington has fallen short in his 250th match on the PSA squash tour. Williams the top seed a the Squash Melbourne Open has been beaten in the final of the tournament by Frenchman Christophe Andrew 11-4, 12-10, 11-1 in 33 minutes in what was his 250th PSA match.

Earlier in the event Williams had won his first match in straight games over Matthew Lai (Hong Kong), then beat fellow Kiwi Zac Millar in the quarters in straight games followed by Australian Nicholas Calvert again in straight games in the semis.

Another Kiwi, Jason van der Walt made the second round before he was in turn beaten by Millar.

In the women’s draw Casey Owen reached the quarter-final before she was defeated by top seed Christine Nunn. Kaitlyn Watts lost in the second round to Anna Serme from the Czech Republic.

The next tournament for Kiwi players in Australia is in Shepparton next week with Coffs Harbour a week later.
