Kiwis Seek Titles at Australian Masters

After a full on week of squash some of our New Zealand Masters Trans-Tasman team are competing for the silverware at the Australian Masters Championships. Tony Johnston team manager reports on the past few days.

After four hectic days at the 11 court Ballarat Squash complex, we now await finals day on Friday where for some NZ team members everything will be on the line. With most draws being six players playing a full round robin (and 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th matched up for the Friday) or eight players with two by four round robins with a final or 3rd/4th on Friday, it can come down to overall wins or even games/points, but in general terms the important games from a NZ perspective are:

  • Jo Shanks plays for gold in the final of the W's 35+
  • Sam Atkins plays for gold in the final of the M's 35+
  • Nadine Cull plays for gold in the final of the W's 40+
  • Allan Crome plays for bronze in the M's 40+
  • Lisa Cowlard plays for gold in the final of the W's 45
  • Kathryn McKay has won bronze in the W's 50+ (she has a bye on Friday)
  • Gary Duberly plays for gold in the final of the M's 50+
  • Karen Walton plays for silver/bronze in the W's 55+
  • Freda Walker plays for bronze in the W's 60+
  • Mark Waldin plays for gold in the final of the M's 60+
  • Judy Smith plays for silver/bronze in the W's 65+
  • Wayne Seebeck plays for gold in the final of the M's 65+

The tournament concludes with a Dinner on the Friday night.

On Saturday, NZ plays the third and final Trans-Tasman test against Australia at 1 pm followed by a Teams Dinner.
