Individual Winners of World Masters Games 2017 Decided
27 Apr 2017The last rounds of individual play for the World Masters Games 2017 have been completed and all age group winners have been decided.
65+ Finals
The Men’s Open saw top seeded Kiwi Hongi Laing go down in a great battle between fellow country man and sixth seed Ross Wells for Wells to claim the title. The Women’s Open saw an upset from the second seeded Canadian Laura Ramsay who took out Australian Susan Volzke in 3 to claim the title. It was New Zealand’s Gary Murdoch who took out the individual title in the Men’s Recreational whilst Australia’s Dianne Cook took out the Women’s Recreational title.

Gerald Poulton of Canada managed to retain his top seeding and took his win from Graeme Richardson of New Zealand in a tight five setter in the Men’s Open. Kaye Jackson the top seed in the Women’s Open proved to be too strong for her competition taking her final win in 3 over Patricia Taylor of New Zealand and winning all of her matches in the event. The Men’s Recreational saw Allan Briggs of Australia defeating all of his other opponents to take out the title ahead of New Zealand’s Ian Rout.

The Men’s Open saw Richard Purser take the top of the pool with wins over all his opponents whilst Thomas Slattery took the second position. The Men’s Recreational draw saw Albert Armstrong claim the top spot in the pool. Armstrong has attended every World Masters Games and was presented with a commemorative flag earlier this week for his attendance. Christine Cooper took the top spot in the Women’s Recreational after her win over fellow Australian Margaret Gruca.

The United Kingdom’s Malcolm Gilham defeated Trevor Coulter twice in their Pool Play taking out the Men’s Open draw seeing Trevor Coulter of New Zealand taking the silver medal. Wilfred Sandercock took out the Recreational division winning all his matches in pool play.
