2016 National Awards Finalists

These awards are a thank you to volunteers and coaches who have put endless time and commitment into improving the game within their club and community.

Club of the Year

The Club of the Year Award was established in 1998, is open to all affiliated squash clubs within New Zealand and recognises a clubs' valuable contribution, good practice and achievement in the delivery of community squash.

The finalists (in alphabetical order):

  • Hamilton Squash and Tennis Club (Waikato)
  • Mana Squash Club (Wellington)
  • Mt Maunganui Squash Club (Bay of Plenty)
  • Royal Oak Racquets Club (Auckland)

Volunteer of the Year

The Volunteer of the Year Award was established in 2012 and rewards outstanding contribution from a volunteer who has willingly provided their time and effort to make squash happen in their local community.

The finalists (in alphabetical order):

  • Joanna Smales (Auckland)
  • Paul Growcott (Canterbury)
  • Troy Ramsay (Central)
  • Steve Roughan (Wellington)

National Coaching Awards

The National Coaching Awards were established in 2002 and recognise the important role that coaches play, across a range of environments, in enabling more people to play, more often and with greater success.

The finalists for each Coaching Award category are listed below (in alphabetical order):

New Coach of the Year

  • Phil Buscke Sommervell (Waikato)
  • Kylie Lindsay (Bay of Plenty)

Club and School Coach of the Year

  • Jared Gravatt (Bay of Plenty)
  • Kay Newman (Waikato)
  • Adam Odering (Canterbury)
  • Jarrod van Driel (Auckland)

Performance Coach of the Year

  • John Brown (Canterbury)
  • Paul Hornsby (Auckland)
  • Glen Wilson (Northland / Auckland)
  • Robbie Wyatt (Bay of Plenty)
