Jamie Oakley gives us an update on the World Junior Mens fifth and sixth day on the ground including the highs and the lows.
Day 5: the second day of the tournament kicked off in style as Sammy Sayes drowned his opponent from Egoli in 5 of the worst sets Sam has played, ironically he was down match ball after being match ball up the day before, Sam described the performance as "not ideal by any means". However we all know a wins a win no matter how ugly it may be.
I was on next and was up against it from the get go, the man was no joker and played at a pace like no other. Unfortunately for me, this ended my tournament but all in all was happy to finish in the top 32.
Next on was Scottie g and there was no mucking around here, if his Indian opponent was hungry he got what he wanted, a fresh bagel. Some quality squash and a game Scott won't forget for a while.
Final game of the day saw Finlay take on Schmelli from Iran, this game had 5 sets written all over it from the get go, speaking of 5s, this bloke was at least 5 years older than Finn...... Finn coming away with the W, 13/11 in the fifth to cap off a rather successful day for team NZ.
Day 6: Sammy was again first up today, not the result Sam was looking for and ended his Worlds Individuals campaign, freshly off the court Sam quoted "not a performance I'll remember in a hurry, quite pitiful really".
Scotty continued to solider on through the classic plate tearing up anyone in his way, the next culprit was none other than Ricardo Toscano from Guatemala, unfortunately for Ricardo he was literally torn to shreds with an incredible display of shots from Scotty.
Finn was the last match of the day and took on a seeded Egyptian on the all glass court in the town square. A fantastic match which was played in great spirit, Finn eventually being drowned 11/9 in the fifth, an absolute cliff hanger till the very end, as Finns tournament comes to a close he should be very happy with his performances throughout, he took his game to the next level under all sorts of pressure.
After day 6 only 2 remain, Ellie taking on Gohar in the 1/4 finals and Scotty against a Korean whose name is beyond me.
