Creating a world-class coaching environment
4 Jul 2016It has been 6 years since Squash New Zealand's Strategic Coaching Plan was introduced and we, along with most other sports in New Zealand, have aligned our coaching plan to the Sport New Zealand’s National Coaching Strategy.
During this time the national Coach Development Framework has been implemented by regional CoachForce facilitators, which is designed to provide a more flexible approach and offer a wider range of learning opportunities for coaches.
To date there have been a total of 66 facilitators trained, 1,242 coaches developed and 2,975 combined module deliveries completed. Prior to this there was around 50-60 coach development opportunities each year (10x less activity in coach development).
As a result, our previous national membership decline has stopped and our athletes are now competing at a higher level at both the national and international levels.
We have also noted the following:
- Our Strategy has stood the test of time well and is highly regarded within all of sport in New Zealand.
- The modular approach has been very well received and is making a positive impact on squash coach development in New Zealand.
- The use of regional CoachForce to roll out the plan has proven an effective approach – however not all Districts are currently utilising the programme.
- The turnover of key people has made keeping the momentum of the plan alive and progressing difficult.
Review
To ensure we continue to build on the excellent progress we have made over the past 6 years, we are seeking feedback from those involved in the squash coaching space. We would love to hear any thoughts you may have. You are a key part of our coaching system and your thoughts will be very valuable. The survey should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete.
