Kiwis in Canadian Junior Open
14 Dec 2015A number of New Zealand's top junior players are competing in both the Candian and American Junior Open and many of them are off to a great start!
In the Girls Under 15 event Anika Jackson and Kailtyn Watts both had first round byes whilst they took identical points wins from their Candian opponents in round 2. They now take on two more Canadians in round 3 of this 64 draw. Kaitlyn has a 3/4 seeding and will play Anika Kurji who has a 13/16 seeding. Anika will take on Marlow Benson who has a 5/8 seeding. Both games are sure to test the girls.
In the Girls Under 17 Courtney Trail lost to the higher seeded Emma Jinks however she came out in her first round of the Plate draw and was pushed hard by the Canadian Catherine Giachino, with five setter on the cards Trail managed to claim the win and move into the second round of the plate draw where she plays Heather Mclachlan who has a seeding of 9/12.
The youngest of the boys competing overseas includes Leo Fatialofa, Freddie Jameson and Apa Fatialofa in the Boys Under 13 draw. Leo Fatialofa is 5/8 seed and he has already secured himself 2 wins over his Candian counterparts, he now faces the number 1 seed Mohamed Kamal in the quarter finals. Apa secured a first round win but lost in his second game to the number 2 seed. Freddie Jameson has pulled out 2 big five setters, unfortunately he couldn't pull a first round win off but managed a second round win.
