North Island Age Groups Draws SetNew Squash NZ Logo horizontal small

With 170 of New Zealands top junior players heading to the Capital this weekend it is sure to be a weekend of great squash and fun at this years 2015 North Island Age Groups at Mitchell Park Squash Club.

In the Under 19 Boys Jamie Oakley has secured the top spot for this weekend but he is likely to face local club members Tyler Ranger (fourth seed) in the semi-finals and Alex Revington (second seed) in the final, this is assuming Revington can get past Montell Whatarangi of Hamilton who takes the third seed position.

The Under 19 Girls sees Abbie Palmer set to take out a title before she heads off to the World Junior Girls Championships in Eindhoven next week. She is due to face second seed Nikki Kennedy in the final who will be looking for that title she so desperately wants after being knocked out of the semi-finals at the South Island Age Groups last weekend. Both players will have to get past some stiff competition in the form of third seed Ellen Verry and fourth seed Tyler Duberly.

The Boys Under 17 is sure to be a tight affair with Rafa Yam seeded first, closely followed by South Islander Quinn Udy, fellow club mate Matthew Lucente and Northlander Finn Trimble. Yam lost out in a close battle last weekend at the South Island Age Groups so he will be sure to make a strong appearance this weekend.

The Girls Under 17 sees Aucklands Anna Hughes seeded first but with Zoe Dykzeul seeded second and coming off a high of winning the South Island Age Groups title last weekend, this is sure to be a difficult battle for them. Third seed Ruby Turnbull has crossed the straight to try her hand at the North Islands title and claims the third spot whilst Courtney Trail pops down the road from Palmerston north to round out the top four.

The Boys Under 15 sees another Yam seeded to claim the title with Gabe Yam taking the top seed, Temwa Chileshe is second seed and after winning the South Island Age Groups Under 15 title he will be wanting to make it two in a row this weekend, assuming these players can get past Glenn Templeton seeded third from the Bay of Plenty and Campbell Webster seeded fourth from Wellington.

Thie Girls Under 15 has Hamiltons Anika Jackson taking the top seeding out, but she will have to get past Northlands Annmarie Holst in pool play to secure a final spot. In the other pool Rhiarne Taiapa and Winona Jo-Joyce are set to battle it out to find their place in the final for the Under 15's.

The Under 13 Boys is set to see a great final between Aucklanders Leo Fatialofa (1st seed) and Elijah Thomas (second seed). These players have come across each other a number of times and this is sure to be another tough battle if they can both keep on track to the final. Joe Smythe and Sam Kelly (third and fourth seeds respecitvely) will be making sure this is a difficult task for them on their way to the final.

The Under 13's has first seed Renee Dudson of Geyser City set to face second seed Ariata Kutia of Gisborne. Both players will be looking to put their name next to some of the other notable names on this trophy. Ruby Saies and Dileesia Henare of Auckland will make this a tough challenge for them taking third and fourth seeds respectively.

The youngest age group of the Under 11 Boys sees another Fatialofa seeded to take out the title with Apa Fatialofa set to take the title. He will have to get past second seed Tom Marshall of Canterbury who closely missed out in the finals of the South Island Age Groups last week to this weekends fourth seed Freddie Jameson. Third seed is Noah Thomas brother to Elijah Thomas, and he rounds out the top four in the Under 11 Boys.

In the Under 11 Girls Natalie Sayes will be hoping she can add to her two trophies she secured last weekend at the South Island Age Groups. She will have to face Sophie Hodges of Hamilton in pool play before she gets to the final where she is expected to face club mate Jade Stratford, assuming Stratford can make it past Ella Lash of Auckland on their way to the final.

Games start midday tomorrow and full draws can be found here on the Mitchell Park Juniors website.
