High Performance Update – HP22
14 May 2015There have been a number of changes to the high performance programmes run by Squash NZ recently. In particular there is the implementation of regional hubs across the country as well as a High Performance Player Meet to take place. These programmes are all working towards 2022.
Regional HP Hubs
Vision
New Zealand athletes achieving podium success at World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
To achieve this vision the SNZ High Performance Advisory Panel has created 9 Regional High Performance Hubs throughout the country.
Squash New Zealand is looking to increase the number of regional high performance athletes and pathways for the High performance programme.
The development of the regional hubs will form a connection to the other programmes Squash New Zealand currently has in place i.e. Talent Development Centres, Junior Development Squads and Elite Junior Squads, as well as the National Squads.
Purpose Regional High Performance Hubs
- To provide a high performance training environment for athletes who aspire to be professional squash players
- To use the skills and services of suitably qualified coaches to provide coaching at this level
- To provide pathways for athletes into national training squads
Philosophy
- The HPAP leader (Paul Wright) will work with the regional coaches to develop a shared vision for a high performance programme from 2015 – 2022
- While recognising individual contributions everyone will work toward common goals
- The standards must be raised if performance is to improve
- Measurement and testing will be compulsory to achieve the required standards
- The programme requires the support of every district

- Northland - Glen Wilson
- Auckland - Shelley Kitchen and Glen Wilson
- Waikato - Phil Buscke
- Bay of Plenty - Robbie Wyatt
- Central - Kashif Shuja
