North Island Junior Age Group Draws - UPDATED
15 Jul 2014The draws for this weekend's North Island Junior Age Group Championships at Hamilton Squash Club have now been released.
The Hamilton club is looking forward to welcoming the more than 150 players to the Waikato for what are sure to be closely contested age group draws. Full draws are available at the club's website: http://www.hstc.co.nz/squash/events.
The top seeds in the under 19 divisions are Luke Jones (SquashGym Palmerston North) and Ellie Epke (Harcourts Eden Epsom). With several of Jones' NZ under 19 team-mates (including defending champion Scott Galloway) skipping the North Island Age Groups to train for the upcoming World Junior Championships in Namibia, the boys' draw has an open look to it. Epke is favoured to add another North Island under 19 title to her growing resume, with her closest competition expected to be clubmate and 2013 NZ Junior Women's teammate Hayley Hughes.
In the younger age divisions Abbie Palmer is seeded to add the North Island under 17 title to the one she won at the South Island Age Group Championships earlier in the school holidays. The boys under 17 division is expected to be a close affair, with Devoy Squash & Fitness teammates Alex Revington and Jamie Oakley the top two seeds.
Matthew Lucente and Matthew Yam - two clubmates from Belmont Park on Auckland's North Shore - have top billing in the boys' under 15 division, while Canterbury's Ruby Turnbull heads the seedings in the girls' under 15 division. Glenn Templeton and Joe Smythe are seeded to add North Island titles to the South Island under 13 and under 11 titles they won, respectively, two weeks ago. In the girls' under 13 division Anika Jackson will be looking to use home court knowledge to her advantage in her quest for the title, while Diana Galloway is favoured to win the under 11 title.
