The event saw doubles teams from India, Malaysia and New Zealand face each other in all three Commonwealth Games teams events - Mixed Doubles, Women's Doubles and Men's Doubles.

Current Women's Doubles gold medallist Joelle King, currently ranked number four in the Singles rankings, paired up with Amanda Landers-Murphy (WR46) to reach the final against India's Joshna and Dippika. They started well, winning the first game but the Indian duo, with current world rankings of 10 and 21, were too strong for the kiwis, taking the match 8/11, 11/6, 11/2, leaving New Zealand with silver.

Continuing in the Women's competition, NZ's other pair of Kylie Lindsay (WR52) and Megan Craig (WR41) played well against the Malaysian team, which consists of current world champion and world number 1 Nicol David and Low Wee Wern (WR7) but were not strong enough with the final match score 3/11, 11/5, 6/11 to Malaysia.

The gold was won in the extremely tight all-kiwi Men's Doubles final where top New Zealand combination Martin Knight and Campbell Grayson just edged their younger compatriots Paul Coll and Lance Beddoes 11-8 5-11 11-8 in 85 minutes of court time.

A similarly close Mixed Doubles final went the way of Indians Saurav Ghosal and Dipika Pallikal over defending Commonwealth silver medallists Martin Knight and Joelle King, with a final score of 9-11 11-8 11-7 in 80 minutes.

The only bronze medal was picked up by Commonwealth Games newcomers Paul Coll and Amanda Landers-Murphy who beat Malaysian duo Nafizwan Adnan and Delia Arnold 11/8 11/10. The other Kiwi Mixed Doubles pairs placed sixth and seventh.

Coaches were really pleased with the efforts of the players at the tournament, confirming that New Zealand are on track to be competitive force at the Commonwealth Games in July.

The players will now disperse around the world to various professional singles tournaments and will meet up again as a whole group in Glasgow, immediately prior to the Games.
