Club Teams Events in 2014

The rules documents for some of Squash New Zealand's most popular events have been finalised for 2014.

Superchamps

What's New?

Timing: The Superchamps events have been shifted slightly later in the year in the 2014 season, as part of the ongoing battle to make room for all of the national events.Superchamps logo

Dates: The 2014 Superchamps weekends are:

  • Superchamps District Eliminations: 25-27 July.
  • Superchamps National Finals: 15-19 October.

Eligibility: As per last year, the Superchamps grading eligibility cut-off has been set at exactly eight weeks before the recommended date for Superchamps District Eliminations.  This year, that date is Friday 30 May.  ALL players wanting to play in Superchamps will need to be on their club's grading list by this date.  NB: to appear on the 30 May grading list, any transfers will need to be done NO LATER THAN 29 May - but please check with your District for local deadlines.

As usual Squash New Zealand will save and publish this official Superchamps eligibility grading list on our website.

How does the Combined Grading List affect Superchamps? Separate men's and women's events will be played, as per usual.  Mixed teams will not be allowed.  The F Grade section of Superchamps - whilst always open to J Graders - will now be a combined F/J Grade competition (as these grades now overlap).

Scoring: Like last year, scoring in all B Grade Superchamps competition will be PAR to 11.  All other grades will remain PAR to 15.

Further Information: For full information on rules and the event, please visit the Superchamps page of our website.

Cousins Shield Mitchell Cup

What's New?

The eligibility rules are unchanged for the second year in a row.  As a general reminder:

Eligibility: Players must:

  • Be on the grading list for the club they wish to represent as at 1 April;
  • Live in the same district as the club they wish to represent;
  • Be a full financial member of the club they wish to represent; and
  • Play interclub for the club they wish to represent (or not play interclub for another club).

Imports: Imports have now been split into two groups: 'domestic' and 'international'.

  • Domestic imports (someone who normally lives in New Zealand and is a member of a New Zealand club) are available to Cousins Shield teams that have two or fewer A graders (that are not both A1), and to Mitchell Cup teams that have one or fewer A grade players (that is not A1).
  • International imports (defined as somone who does not normally live in New Zealand, is not a member of a New Zealand club, and features on the PSA or WSA ranking list) are available to ALL teams.

Please consult the Rules for further information.

Homegrown Players: In order to support clubs who invest significant time and resources into the development of juniors or other players; players may continue to play for the club they were a member of as a junior after moving away from that district for study/work opportunities. However, as soon as a player plays Cousins Shield/Mitchell Cup for a different club, this rule will no longer apply to them.

Please consult the Rules for further information.

Timing: The event will once again be played over the Queen's Birthday long weekend.  This year the host is Burnside Squash Club (with any spillover matches played at Squashways).

How does the Combined Grading List affect the event? Neither the Cousins Shield nor the Mitchell Cup will be affected by the Combined Grading List; the two distinct competitions will continue to be held.  Women are ineligible to play in the Cousins Shield, and men are ineligible to play in the Mitchell Cup.

Further Information: For full information on rules, the event and how to enter, please visit the Cousins Shield/Mitchell Cup page of our website.

Masters Club Team Championships

What's New?

There have been no changes from 2013's successful running of the event.  As a reminder:

Format: Clubs may enter teams of four persons.  Players may be male or female, but all must be thirty five or older as at the first day of the competition.

Eligibility: Eligibility rules have not changed since last year, but for information players:

  • Must be over 35 years of age as at the first day of the event.
  • Must be full financial members of that club.
  • Can only represent a club in the district in which they are resident, except where a player has contested 75% or more of the interclub fixtures for a club outside that district in the current season.

Dates: The event will be played slightly earlier - 16-18 May - in 2014, in order not to clash with the World Masters Championships in Hong Kong.  The host this year is Silverdale Squash Club - with spillover matches to be played at Red Beach Squash Club.

How does the Combined Grading List affect the event? It doesn't.  As a mixed event, men and women will play alongside each other as normal.
