National Coaching Director Appointed

Squash New Zealand is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Fletcher to the role of National Coaching Director.

Jason has played and coached squash for over 25 years and more recently made the transition towards full-time professional coaching. His coaching work with SquashGym Palmerston North included the development of a successful school squash programme and he played an instrumental role in running the SquashGym junior academy programme which has seen numerous players progress to national squad status, winning national and North/South Island age group titles.

At District level his coaching work has included the delivery and facilitation of National Coaching Framework modules, and involvement in the District’s High Performance programme and representative teams.  He is the Head Coach of the Central Talent Development Centre, has completed the National Development Squad High Performance module, and in 2014 will be engaged in the National High Performance programme.

In his role as National Coaching Director Jason will be responsible for the completion of the National Coaching Framework and training facilitators around the country to deliver these modules to coaches in clubs and schools.  With more than 50 facilitators and 830 coaches trained, and more than 2000 coaching modules completed, the programme has been incredibly successful in lowering barriers to coaching qualifications in New Zealand.

Outgoing National Coaching Director Dave Clarke described Jason as “...a great communicator who is able to relate to coaches of all levels and abilities. I have absolute confidence that Jason will continue to develop the National Coaching Framework to a high standard. I wish him well in the new role and encourage the coaching fraternity to support him as they have done me.”
