Marlborough Sportsperson is Megan
20 Nov 2013Megan Craig has taken out the prestigious Marlborough Sportsperson of the Year Award in Blenheim this week.
The Blenheim squash star capped off a successful 2013 by winning the supreme award at the Marlborough Sports Awards this week. In a year that she also lifted her world ranking to a career best 46, Craig finished in third place at the National Championships, won the South Island title, and picked up the fourth title of her career on the professional WSA tour by winning the Western Australia Open.
The accolade broke a 29 year drought for women at the Marlborough Sports Awards, with Craig the first female winner since diver Susan Stewart in 1984.
George Crosby was the last squash player to win the award, back in 1996.
Craig was joined at the awards by her supportive father Grant, and a sizeable (and delighted) delegation from the local Marlborough Squash Club.
