Kiwis in America

With the professional season now underway a number of Kiwi players are currently touring America playing in a number of tournaments held there each year.

Martin Knight, Kylie Lindsay, Campbell Grayson, Joelle King, Paul Coll and Megan Craig have all made tournament appearances there within the last few months.

Off the back of his appearance in the New Zealand Classic in Palmerston North, Martin Knight made the journey to South America to play in the Galeria Shopping Open reaching the final before losing out to local legend Rafael Alarcon in a five set thriller.

Paul Coll then made the journey to the US to join Knight in the Charlottesville Challenger. Coll lost out in the quarter finals in a close four game battle to third seed Englishman Charles Sharpes who eventually met Knight in the Final. After his third five game final in a row, Knight finally came out on top and won the marathon match in a tiring 98 minutes.

Coll and Knight then played in the Madison Open. Coll had a tough first round draw against third seed and eventual winner Karim Ali Fathi. Knight managed to make it to the Semi-finals before losing in three against Fathi.

At the same time Kylie Lindsay and Megan Craig played in the Orange County Open. Lindsay lost out in the first round against young aussie Sarah Cardwell while Megan made it one better reaching the Quarters before losing to fourth seed Latasha Khan.

Joelle King and Kylie Lindsay played in the Carol Weymuller Open, Lindsay was knocked out in qualifying after losing to Irish player Aisling Blake. King was seed fifth and made it to the quarters before losing out to world number three Raneem El Weleily.

Campbell Grayson was in the Indian Summer Open and after drawing top seed Alister Walker from Botswana went down in a close three game battle in 50 minutes.

Joelle King is in the Main draw of the US open and will be joined by Kylie Lindsay who won in qualifying to secure her place. Campbell Grayson won both his two qualifying matches in three games to secure a first round clash with Swiss player Nicolas Mueller.

Paul Coll recently played in the Royal Lake Open losing in the Quarters to fourth seed Aamir Atlas Khan. 

Martin Knight is currently competing at the Champion Fiberglass Open in Houston where he is top seed.
