Teams Event Underway in Napier

The Junior National Inter District Teams Event is underway in Napier, with the top seeds surviving so far.

There was no rest for the girls in Pool A, who were back in action just two hours after prize-giving on Sunday evening.  Matches went to plan, with the higher seeded Bay of Plenty and Waikato dispatching Eastern and Canterbury respectively.

The majority of matches in the girls' teams event have gone similarly to plan so far; with top seeds Auckland not dropping a set in their ties against Canterbury and Eastern.  Second seeds Wellington were the victims of a major scare in their tie against sixth seeds Northland.  A 2-2 matches deadlock needed to be broken by a games countback, which handed Wellington the tie 9-7.  Northland continued their giant-killing form by beating third seeds Central later that afternoon.  A less dramatic tie was played against Southland, with Wellington winning 4-0.2012 Sth Isl Junior Champions

Fourth seeds Bay of Plenty continued their fine form, beating Waikato 4-0 to remain on track for a pool-deciding showdown with Auckland on Tuesday afternoon.

In the boys' event Wellington also needed a countback to get past Northland in the first round; winning 2-2, 10-7.  The top seeds picked up a second win of the day by beating Waikato 4-0.

Second seeds Auckland are also unbeaten after two rounds so far; beating Eastern 2-2, 10-6, and Central 3-1.  Third seeds Bay of Plenty were more convincing in beating Eastern 3-1, and Central 4-0, setting up an intriguing match-up on Tuesday.
