Coll Comeback in Christchurch

Canterbury's Paul Coll has beaten Mike Corren in the final of the DoubleCorren & Coll before final (medium)Dot Media CBHS Open today.

Coll, 21, recovered from a two game deficit to defeat top seeded Corren 6-11 9-11 13-11 11-9 11-5 in 76 minutes.

Both players managed relatively comfortable semi-final wins on Saturday evening to emerge fresh for today's final, and it was the 39 year old legs of Corren that made the better start.  The top seed used all of the control and precision he has picked up throughout the course of a long career that has so far netted him 47 PSA titles to take the first two games.

The third game was a pivotal and exhausting battle.  Momentum see-sawed, with Coll eventually clinching it 13-11 to keep the match alive.  From there he never looked back, working hard in front of his home crowd to seal the fourth and fifth.

It was Coll's second career title at PSA level, and achieved in front of an adoring home crowd.  It should see his world ranking jump significantly from its current 99 in the October rankings.
