Final Qualifying Results from Christchurch PSA

Latest qualifying results from the Doubledot Media Christchurch Boys' High School Open 2013 at Burnside/Squashways squash clubs in Christchurch.

Unfortunately the final round of qualifying saw all but one of the kiwis knocked out.

Pablo Rawden has made it two out of two after qualifying for his second NZ PSA event in as many weeks, the English player defeated local Chris van der Salm to line up a draw against another kiwi, Auckland's Lance Beddoes in the first round.

Chris Lloyd also lost out in qualifying, falling in straight games to American Adrian Leanza another recent NZ Classic qualifier who will face veteran Aussie Mike Corren.

The all New Zealand clash between Ben Grindrod and James Skiffington saw Grindrod win making up for his exit in the qualifiers last week. Grindrod will now line up against Aussie Andrew Fraser in the first round.

All the qualifiers progressed smoothly to the main draw with each of the games wrapped up in relatively comfortable 3 set victories.  The formalities of the evening then began with an impressive haka and welcome from the students at Christchurch Boys High School (pictured below).

The ballot for the main draw was then done and the evening rounded out with an entertaining doubles matchup with Scotland (Kempsell & Moran) taking on New Zealand (Coll & Beddoes) with the home team prevailing 2/0.

Qualifying results at Burnside Squash Club this evening were as follows:

* Pablo Rawden (ENG) beat Chris van der Salm (NZL) 11/4, 11/8, 11/3 (29 min)

* Adrian Leanza (USA) beat Chris Lloyd (NZL) 11/1, 11/3, 11/8 (22 min)

* Ben Grindrod (NZL) beat James Skiffington (NZL) 11/7, 11/9, 11/6 (29 min)

* Jaakko Vahamaa (FIN) beat Tim Cowell (AUS) 15/13, 11/1, 11/6 (29 min)
