After what has been 3 days of high intensity squash Auckland and Central have claimed the Boys and Girls Junior Inter-District titles respectively. Waikato have also claimed the Gifford Cup for the best combined performance overall.
In the Girls final Annaleise Faint got Central off to a strong start with her 3-0 win over Waikato’s Sophie Hodges. Leah Hodges was able to level the score for Waikato taking her win 3-1 over Tia Pauro of Central. Kaitlyn Watts continued her strong performance throughout the tournament taking a 3-1 win from Waikato’s Anika Jackson. Courtney Trail was all down to business for Central and she claimed her win over Waikato’s Georgia Robcke 3-0 claiming the title for Central.
In the Boys final Angus MacDonald took a 3-0 win over Leo Fatialofa putting Waikato out in front. Elijah Thomas of Auckland and Liam McDonald of Waikato were throwing everything on the line but it was success for Thomas who levelled the score for Auckland taking his win 3-1. One of the matches of the day came from Waikato’s Lwamba Chileshe who was able to upset Auckland’s Matthew Lucente with an enthralling 3-1 win. Gabe Yam was looking to round out the win for Auckland knowing he needed to get a win in 3 for it to go back to points countback against Waikato’s Temwa Chileshe. Yam and Chileshe both battled hard but it was Yam who claimed the match 3-0, levelling the games at 7-7 but it was eventually Auckland who took the win 132-125 points.
