FREE online learning for squash club committees

The challenge facing squash club committees is not an easy one. With a small amount of resources and a large volunteer pool, clubs are facing increasing compliance requirements on top of offering quality squash experiences for its’ members. To combat this, strong leadership is usually required from the management.

People who sit on management committees often dedicate their time to support the game and their club because they are passionate about it. If this is you, there is a good chance you have not had any formal governance training to be able to gain the skills required to effectively lead.

Luckily Sport NZ has created Sport Tutor - an online learning portal created to support people working at any level of the sport sector. The launch of the FREE online Governance 101 course is something every squash club management / executive committee should complete. It not only provides a great introduction for 'new to governance' committee members, but there are also timely reminders and refreshers for those people who have been engaged in governance for a long period of time.

101 Governance

While there are a number of factors that influence a club’s success, leadership is vital to giving your club the best opportunity to succeed. It will allow you to:

  • Be proactive and not reactive by planning for the future.
  • Reduce risk by understanding and meeting legislative requirements.
  • Provide sustainability for the club moving forward.

The complete course takes between 2-3 hours but can be completed in 7 smaller modules (when it suits) that can be done at any time over 6 months.

The course provides templates, videos and interactive learning opportunities. It covers:

  • The role of the director.
  • The board’s strategic role.
  • Recruiting and inducting for the board.
  • How to prepare for and participate in a board meeting.
  • Board accountability, ethics and integrity.
