King through to quarters in Shanghai

2012 JK at British Open (small)

A first up win for New Zealand's Joelle King at the China Open squash tournament in Shanghai.

King is one of seven seeds safely through to the quarterfinals, after a tough four game win over Hong Kong's Annie Au.

The fourth seeded Kiwi got away to an uncharacteristically slow start and Au pounced to take the first game 11-2. However, King came out firing in the second, upping the intensity to romp away with a 2-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-3 victory.

King says she was simply not there mentally and physically for the opening game, but is pleased to have gone through.

"Tough game with Annie as always, (so I'm) pleased to get through in four. I'm looking forward to playing on the glass court - I love playing on it and this year it's from the quarters so it should be nice".

King will play English sixth seed Jenny Duncalf for a place in the semifinals.
