Day 3

Again, we were fortunate to be able to practice against some new opposition and different styles of players. The Aussies kindly invited us to join in with their practice session which enabled Martin and Paul to get a solid match against 2 of their leading players. The lads only just lost 11-9, 11-10 in a match lasting almost an hour, which was encouraging!! Megan and Amanda also had a few matches against some of the younger Aussies, plus an appearance by the legendary Sarah Fitz Gerald. They managed to win all of their matches which will give them confidence going into the tournament.

For Martin, the session ended in disaster when he suffered a freak accident causing him to have to stop playing in their second match. When wiping his hand on the wall he sliced a layer of skin off on the join between 2 panes of glass which was uneven! Luckily it doesn't affect him holding the racket, and he has since managed to stop the bleeding and designed some protection that will hopefully allow him to play without worrying about it! (The horrific injury pictured below...)

On the evening there was a test match between Scotland and Australia followed by an opening ceremony.

The players have had plenty of good preparation and are ready for action as the event gets underway in the morning.

Check out the Squash Australia page for all the draws and results.
