Knight and King Take the Choccies4 Aug 2013
Joelle King and Martin Knight have won their fourth and second National Titles respectively at Royal Oak today.
It was business as usual for top seed and World Number Five Joelle King in the women's championship final, opening up early leads in each game and consolidating to take control of the match. While Landers-Murphy was occasionally able to threaten with her powerful array of forehand groundstrokes, King was ultimately too steady, and controlled the middle of the court too well for Landers-Murphy. It was a fourth consecutive national title for King, of the Cambridge Racquets Club.
An upset in the mens' championship final, with second seed Martin Knight beating regular foe Campbell Grayson in straight games. The match was a heady tussle, with the opening game alone lasting half an hour. Regular lets interspersed rallies of high quality stroke play, as a bouncy ball combined with fantastic retrieving led to regular obstructions.
Joelle King beat Amanda Landers-Murphy 11-6 11-3 11-6
Martin Knight beat Campbell Grayson 11-7 11-7 11-9
