New Zealand Eighth at World Championships

The New Zealand team have saved their best for last at the World Junior Women's Squash Champs in Poland.


The 8th seeded kiwis have finished in 8th place, after going down 2-1 in a thrilling showdown with 6th seeds India in the playoff for 7th place.Team sitting (small)

Abbie Palmer got New Zealand on the front foot, digging deep after going two games down to beat Sachika Ingale 4-11, 1-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-3.

Ellie Epke then had the chance to seal seventh place for New Zealand, but the Kiwi number one went down in a tough four game match against Harshit Kaur Jawanda, beaten 11-6, 11-5, 4-11, 11-8.

That left Rebecca Barnett the job of winning the decider against India's number two Lakshya Ragavendran, and the two players produced a superb match, going toe to toe for five thrilling games before Barnett was eventually pipped 9-11, 16-14, 10-12, 12-10, 11-9.
