Junior Squash Blacks unable to overcome USA

The girls took on the might of the USA and second seeds for the event in a match to decide who made it thoguh to the top five play offs.

The girls went in as optimistic as ever and were ready for an upset. Up first was Ellie Epke at number one string against Sabrina Sobhy. Eliie was always set for a hard match and unfortunately Sobhy quickness was too much and despite some great shots Ellie went down in three.

Second on was Abbie to keep the tie alive, she was up against Reeham Sedky. The American came into the match on good form and so Abbie knew this would be a tough encounter. The first game was a tight affair with it being point for point most of the way, however Sedky's form showed and she edged the first 11-8. Despite Abbie's efforts Sedky managed to keep up the effort and took the second and third to end the match 3-0 and the tie 2-0 in the USA's favour.

Despite it being a dead rubber, Becky and her opponent decided to play out the third match in a best of three encounter. Taking a close set 11-9 things were looking up for the Squash Blacks, however Becky's opponent Olivia Fiechter had other things in mind and after a momentum swtich, took the second to take it into a decider which Fiechter managed to win to win the match 2-1 and to win the tie 3-0.

This means the girls go in to the 5-8 draw to play off for a chance for fifth place. The girls take on fifth seeds Malaysia today.
