General Manager - Squash Auckland

About our organisation

Squash Auckland is the regional sports organisation for squash in the greater Auckland region.  Our vision is inspiring and enabling Aucklanders to play squash the way they want to.  Our mission is to engage with and enable clubs, commercial and community facilities to deliver a great squash experience to the Auckland community.

About the role

The General Manager, reporting to the Board, is responsible for leading a small team of staff and volunteers and ensuring the strategic vision is delivered and more people are playing and enjoying squash.

Key responsibilities

• Strategic Plan development and implementation

• Event management for tournaments and interclub competitions

• Increasing the capability of squash clubs within the region

• Promotion of the sport both physically and digitally across the wider Auckland area

• General management (office, staff, financial)

• Relationship management (affiliated clubs, Squash New Zealand, sponsors, Regional Sports Trusts, Auckland Council and Local Boards)

• Fundraising from charitable trusts and sponsorship

 

Skills and experience

The position requires the following attributes:

• Excellent interpersonal, organisational and presentation skills

• Knowledge and experience of strategic planning and implementation

• Self-motivation and self-management

• Experience and exposure to the sports & recreation sector

• Computer skills, including presentation preparation

• Financial skills, including budget development and management

• Sponsorship and funding experience

• Ability to develop initiatives to take the sport ‘to the people’ and to motivate clubs to increase membership• Manage and maintain relationships across the sports sector

Squash Auckland has an office based at Alexandra Park Raceway in Greenlane and the role is Monday-Friday, however due to the nature of community sport, evening and weekend work will be required from time to time.
