New Zealand Junior Open Results
6 May 2021The AON New Zealand Junior Open promised to bring the best New Zealand Juniors out to play, and it didn't dissapoint.
With more than 125 juniors hitting the courts at Remuera Rackets Club the event was filled with fun and challenging matches.
The Girls and Boys Opens were the headlines of the event with a number of internationally ranked players taking the court.
The Girl's open saw the top two seeds in Natalie Sayes (Auckland) and Sophie Hodges (Waikato) meet in the final. The match started off fast with Natalie hoping to take control, and although Sophie got the best of her in the second, it was Natalie Sayes who would be the eventual winner, winning 3/1 (11-5, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8)
Following the Girl's, it was the boys open, where a similar situation saw the top two seed meet. Riley-Jack Vetter-Blomquist (Northland) and Joe Smythe (Bay of Plenty) are both extremely fit, promising a long enduring battle, and that's exactly what we got. Riley-Jack starting strong before Joe kicked into a second gear. Unfortunetly for Joe it ended up going Riley-Jacks way with a 3/1 win (11-9, 11-6, 7-11, 13-11)A wonderful event that will be back for 2022!
Thank you to all those who made it possible. See a full list of winners below
