AON New Zealand Junior Open update - Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The global impact of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) is having a significant impact on people’s travel plans and the delivery of large sporting events. To this end, Squash NZ have been monitoring the developments daily, and we are taking advice from the Sporting Community, Government and the Ministry of Health regarding large gatherings.

Recently, all PSA World Tour and PSA Challenger Tour events have been suspended and the Oceania Junior Championships and Trans-Tasman Test Match series scheduled to occur in April, have been postponed until a later date (Earliest possible rescheduled date is December 2020)

Currently, as of the 16th March, Squash New Zealand has no plans to cancel or postpone any upcoming events. The next national event being the AON New Zealand Junior Open scheduled for the 24th – 26th of April at Devoy Squash Centre, Tauranga. We also currently have no plans in limiting supporters from attending the events.

While this is the case today, the virus and its impact is a continuously developing situation. We will be continuing to monitor the situation daily and provide updates as they occur.

If in the potential event that the AON New Zealand Junior Open is postponed or cancelled, we would look at all options at a potential re-scheduling. We are aware there is a planned NZ Government update due midweek this week, which we hope covers large gatherings as such the AON NZJO, and we will be using the NZ Governments advice accordingly.

For those traveling from overseas, it’s advised to check with your government communications regarding international travel. Currently New Zealand has a 14-day self-isolate measure in place for all those traveling overseas except those traveling from : HERE

We advise you all take the above information when considering accommodation and flight options.

We will keep you updated as more information is made clear to us.  The health and safety of the New Zealand squash community will be the most important factor when making future decisions.
