Squash is Hot this Month in Northland2012 SptNth Sportamonth

Squash Northland, in conjunction with Sport Northland are promoting squash in communities in the North, throughout May.

Each month in Northland is dedicated to a particular sport, coordinated by the regional sport trust - Sport Northland. Throughout the month, clubs and organisations involved in that sport are invited to facilitate free 'have-a-go' sessions for local residents. These sessions (similar to coaching clinics) will be devised and run by club coaches and held at the club's home ground/facility. The sessions, while free for participants, are designed to let the community 'try before they buy' and trial various sports to gauge whether they are interested in pursuing the activity. In doing so, the program will promote increased awareness of local clubs.

In May 2012, squash has been chosen as the sport of the month, with many clubs coming on board. Kamo are hosting many "Intro to Squash" sessions, both midweek and at the weekend, whilst Mangakahia are hosting an open night and Whangarei are hosting free Ladies Nights. Mid-Western, Maungaturoto and Manaia will all be hosting tournaments whilst Kamo are incorporating squash activities in their rugby club's 125 years celebrations. These activities are all promoted on the Squash Northland and Sport Northland websites or you can download the brochure here.
