New Zealand Junior Open Results - Day Two

Quarter-final results from Remuera Rackets Club on day two of the New Zealand Junior Open.

Top seeds Ellie Epke and Rebecca Barnett have eased through to the semi-finals of the New Zealand Junior Open with straight sets wins in the quarters on Saturday morning.  Ellie beat Sophie Askin of the Otago Squash club 12-10, 11-1, 11-6.  Rebecca was similarly dominant in her victory of Juee Bhide of the Eden Epsom club, winning 11-6, 11-3, 11-3.  Third seed Abbie Palmer outplayed Courtney Bragg to set up a semi-final with Rebecca Barnett (2), while Paris Dalrymple-Mortleman pulled off the upset of the quarter-final round.  The fifth seed beat Hayley Hughes (fourth seed) of Eden Epsom in four sets, and will play Ellie Epke for a spot in the final.

Mt. Maunganui's James Cooper caused Jonny Barnett a scare in the boys' quarterfinals, pushing the top seed to five sets.  After splitting the first four sets evenly, Barnett's class eventually shone through, taking the fifth set comfortably 11-3.  The remaining quarterfinals went as expected, with the higher seeded players winning in straight sets.  The semi-final matches will be played between Jonny Barnett (1) vs. Ben Grindrod (5), and Zac Millar (2) vs Todd Redman (3).
