Further Support For World Junior Squash Championships

The University of Waikato and Carrus Corporation have added their support to the World Juniors Squash Championships scheduled to be held in Tauranga in July. Both organisations have signed on as major sponsors of the event joining Craigs Investment Partners who announced their support in 2016.

Paul Adams of Carrus Corporation said it was great for Tauranga to be hosting events of this nature. “Carrus have been a long standing supporter of events in Tauranga and we are delighted to be supporting this World Championships.” Adams explained. “We’re committed to the Tauranga community and events of this nature bring valuable economic and social benefits to the region.”

David Craig, Assistant Vice-Chancellor Communications, Marketing and Engagement at the University of Waikato said "The University of Waikato is delighted to be a major sponsor of the upcoming World Junior Squash Championships. This sponsorship reflects our ongoing commitment to the Bay of Plenty region and we look forward to sharing in the excitement that this event will bring to Tauranga.”

Whilst here, the athletes will be given the opportunity to utilise the Adams High Performance Centre. Carrus Trust and the University of Waikato established this very important sports training facility, as part of providing sports science and management degrees to the new University Campus to be based in downtown Tauranga.

The championships will be first world sporting championships to be held in Tauranga, with a portable glass court and live-streaming to be used to showcase the city. Four venues will be utilised to host the 11-day tournament – the Devoy Squash & Fitness Centre in Tauranga and the Te Puke and Mount Maunganui clubs, as well as the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre. The July 19-29th event, which will feature 250 of the best under-19 players from up to 30 countries will also incorporate the women's world junior team championships. Final entries for the Teams event close on February 23.

Event Chairperson Wayne Werder said “one of our key aspects of any event is financial security so the commitment of our three gold level sponsors is very welcome indeed. It continues to give us confidence that we will be able to deliver a tournament of the highest standard to all our international visitors and a worldwide audience and hopefully this will be a catalyst for more businesses to engage with the event.
