Kiwis in Contention in Canberra
6 Sep 2013There are several Kiwi players in the finals of the Australian Masters Championships in Canberra today.
Becky Clarke has already secured the women's 40-44 age group title, going through pool play undefeated. She was pushed hardest by third seeded Lorraine Rae, whom she beat 9-1 4-9 9-2 9-2. Clarke beat all of her other opponents in straight sets to seal the title.
Several other Kiwis are also in line to take titles. A Kiwi Champion in the men's 60-64 age group is guaranteed, with Christchurch clubmates Wayne Seebeck and Lawrence Skurr are up against each other. Similarly the women's 55-59 age group is sure to be won by a Cantab, with Karen Walton and Freda Walker contesting the final.
Other Kiwi hopes are Mark Waldin, in the men's 55-59 final, and Rod Bannister in the men's 45-49 final.
