Barnett through to last 32 in Poland

Rebecca Barnett has beaten the Finnish number one to progress to the last 32 in Wroclaw overnight.

After 44 minutes Barnett walked off court the victor over Emili Soini, 9-11, 12-10, 11-4, 4-1Becky Barnett1, 11-6.  Both Barnett and Coach Joanne Williams agreed that it was one of the best performances of Barnett's career, with incredible ball control and sound strategy serving her well.  Barnett will now line up against Australian Junior Champion - and World Number 90 - Jessica Turnbull for a place in the last 16.

The other Kiwi in action overnight, Ellie Epke, had an eventful match against American Olivia Fiechter.  In a very attacking game of squash, Epke used her shots well to open up a two set advantage early on.  However Fiechter was determined and fought back to level the match at 2-2.  A very tight tussle ensued in the fifth set; where unfortunately Epke's gutsy effort was not able to outdo Fiechter.  The final score was  8-11, 8-11, 11-4, 11-2, 11-7.

Tonight (NZ time) the third round gets underway with Barnett in action against Australian number on Jessica Turnbull (11pm NZT).  Plate action also gets underway, with Hayley Hughes on at 11pm, Abbie Palmer at 11.45pm, and Ellie Epke in the special plate at 12.30am (all NZT).  There are two rounds tonight, so the Kiwi girls will all be busy.  For the full draw and playing schedule, visit the event website.
