van der Salm Wins at Home

Oamaru's Chris van der Salm has added the South Island under 19 title to the South Island senior title he won in May.

Chris van der Salm has made the most of home court advantage to comfortably win the under 19 South Island Age Group Championships.  The Oamaru local justified his top billing to beat Christchurch's Jackson Beresford in the final 11-6, 11-7, 11-6.  In doing so he added the South Island under 19 title to the South Island senior title he won in Nelson earlier in the season - the first time the two titles have been won by the same player.Awards

The under 19 girls' title was also won by the favourite - Waimea's Sophie O'Connell - who defeated Squash City Invercargill's Emily Flett 11-9, 13-11, 14-12.

Many of the tournament's 88 players will now travel north to Auckland's Harcourts Eden Epsom for the North Island Age Group Championships beginning Friday.
