Wellington, Auckland on Track for Teams Titles

Top seeds Wellington, in the boys, and Auckland, in the girls, have started well in the Inter District Teams Event.

With the individual champs all wrapped up the players moved straight into the Inter District team’s event. The Boys section has seen ten districts put forward teams with Top seed WellingtoZac with Cupn the overwhelming favourite. They can boast Under 19 Champion Zac Millar, Under 19 semi-finalist Jonny Barnett and Under 17 champion Scott Galloway. They are expected to meet second seed Bay of Plenty in the final and things went to plan for both the top seeds on Day one with both districts claiming two from two. Wellington had the luxury of only playing Millar and Barnett once.

The Girls division has seen eight districts enter with Auckland as strong a favourite as Wellington in the Boys. Newly crowned New Zealand Junior Champion, Fourteen year old Ellie Epke is leading their charge with Under 17 champion Hayley Hughes and Under 15 champion Abbie Palmer also amongst the ranks. The team has hardly broken a sweet winning its first two rounds.

The local Central teams are seeded sixth in the Boys and seventh in the Girls. Both have young teams that will gain a lot of experience from this tournament. The Central Boys beat Team Southern in their first match but went down against Midlands on count back in their second round. The Girls have gone down in their first two matches to Wellington and Bay of Plenty.

The Boys and Girls final pool matches are tomorrow (Tuesday) with the finals being played at 10.00am on Wednesday morning.
