Aileen Buscke Receives Squash New Zealand Life Membership Award

Aileen was awarded a Squash New Zealand Life Membership at the National Awards on Saturday, 1st December 2018. The comprehensive nomination was put forward by Tanya Laurence and voted on at the Squash NZ AGM.

Aileen has over 50 years’ involvement in Squash in New Zealand as a player, selector, coach, manager and administrator. This includes service at international, national, district and club level. Her achievements, dedication and voluntary service has been outstanding. Her coaching, mentoring and friendship has touched thousands of squash players throughout New Zealand so this award was an extremely popular choice.

The endorsements included in the nomination were from Squash NZ Life members, former world champions, current top players and former New Zealand representatives and they all conveyed very similar sentiments. This is best summed up by words from Dame Susan Devoy:

She says, “I wish to personally express my gratitude to Aileen for her tireless commitment over many decades. Her list of achievements demonstrates her lifelong passion for not only the game, but for her genuine care and consideration of others.

I think of Aileen as one of the stalwarts of NZ Squash and we have all benefitted from her stellar work. It is appropriate that she is recognised by Squash NZ and I, along with everyone, wish to congratulate and thank you Aileen for your hard work, and the difference it has made to many generations of squash players.”

Congratulations Aileen Buscke on an extremely well-deserved Squash NZ Life Membership Award.
