Kiwi Update in Aussie

A couple of losses to higher ranked opponents for the Kiwi players at the $11,0000 Tarra Kia Bega Open, PSA Challenger Tour in Bega, New South Wales.

Luke Jones lost to top seeded Australian, Rex Hedrick 11-8, 11-2, 11-1 in 24 minutes in his quarter-final match while Scott Galloway was beaten by fourth seed Rhys Dowling (Australia) 11-7, 11-6, 11-8 20 minutes.

At the $5,000 men’s and $5,000 women’s Squash Melbourne Open, Casey Owens from Thames won her first round match in five games over a French player after being two games down. She now plays an opponent from Pakistan in the second round.

Kaitlyn Watts plays her first match of the tournament in the second round against Anna Serme from the Czech Republic.

In the men’s draw Jason van der Walt beat Aussie Muhammad Waheed in straight games in his first round and will take on fellow Kiwi Zac Millar in the second round. Evan Williams is the top seed in the men’s singles with a clash against Hong Kong’s Matthew Lai to start his tournament in the second round.
