Kiwi Team Finishes Creditable Tenth

After a challenging two weeks in hot and humid conditions in Chennai, India the world junior championships are finally over with the New Zealand men’s team finishing equal to its seeding.

The team was seeded 10th and this evening lost the ninth and tenth playoff to Switzerland 2-1.

Gabe Yam was beaten by Yannick Wilhelmi 11-7, 6-11, 4-11, 1-11 in the opening contest, however Anthony Lepper grabbed a match back for the Kiwis with a comprehensive 13-11, 11-6, 11-7 victory over Campbell Wells before Temwa Chileshe was beaten in the vital match 12-14, 6-11, 11-6, 7-11.

Throughout the tournament they scored a number of worthy individual and team results. Two of the most significant results were beating fifth seeds and hosts India and also seventh seeds Colombia in group play.
